It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The top summits have long been mastered.

We're talking about the squad that has won seven Cricket World Cups, plus another six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed over three years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, those for the achievement hunters, are all that remain for a squad that has achieved everything.

That it took up to Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase above 300, regaining their record for the largest in the female 50-over format, is, honestly, a testament to the pitchers that have sported the yellow jersey over the past 50 years.

It's difficult for their hitters to hold a record if never given the opportunity.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the championship match and was awarded tournament MVP. She ensured her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this newest brilliant performance topped that previous effort remains open for discussion.

Some will argue the case for championship match pressure. Different voices suggest with the test that comes when facing a record target and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was far harder to see coming.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 happened while she was the highest scorer, but this innings followed six innings in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"For those following me in the nets, it was a disappointing period because I feel like my form was missing completely," stated Healy.

"But once you step out on the field, your competitive instincts kick in and you simply focus on the contest."

Healy's fighting spirit has always been her great strength - and an invaluable trait in taking over from iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, out to the 22-year-old seamer in all three matches, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's inspiration.

A single was taken off Gaud's first delivery and after that Healy was on her way.

"The possibility to go out there and engage in competition with her and simply enjoy myself in that regard, sort of got me going," said Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 deliveries - her quickest at the global tournament - and her century in 84 as she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three big hits.

When she was out her side required another 66 at a run-a-ball - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the confidence to do that now," continued Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to do it another time but, should it happen, we are confident we can do it."

These statements will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this tournament should hear.

During the last week a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has grown stronger - this victory succeeding success over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite sitting at 76-7 at one point.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with traditional opponents England in Indore in ten days, by which point a last-four spot may likely be confirmed.

During that phase they left the prior year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - an encounter Healy missed because of damaged tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the inaugural occasion at an important competition.

So great is her will, she later said she regretted not playing despite the injury.

But while she subsequently acknowledged those physical issues have delayed thoughts of retirement, this World Cup is expected to be her concluding event as leader in ODI cricket and she is still to achieve an international tournament as leader.

Triumph in India would take her to the summit of her last major obstacle.
