Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
